
Netflix Sports
Netflix Sports is an emerging category within the Netflix brand ecosystem. What they needed was a highly flexible identity system that could easily adapt and grow within this fast-paced content genre.
Tapping into the intensity and boldness of sports design, we leaned on the brandmark to create the basis for a graphic direction that’s impossible to ignore.


















Deeper Than Sport
Based on the success of original content like “The Last Dance” and “Drive to Survive,” Netflix set their sights on ambitiously growing their sports content category. For this monumental push, they brought Plastic Sunshine in to create a comprehensive identity system for all their sports marketing and content moments.
As we set out to build this new identity system for Netflix Sports, we knew we had to work within a larger Netflix brand identity. By intensely studying that system, we saw an opportunity to respectfully “break” the rules, and came up with a simple but powerful device to hang the system on: The Diagonal. For Netflix, this was the aha moment and Global Brand Design embraced our approach.
From there, we developed the system into a cohesive brand guideline to use with all new sports titling, content, and marketing. Additionally, when launching the new platform, we helped create scripts for the brand anthem and designed a set of motion graphics for the rollout.
Used in everything from trailer transitions to title cards, the new brand identity has been a crucial tool for Netflix Sports to successfully continue their global expansion.
